MMSD Named Top 25 Global Water Leader
Broydrick & Associates is proud to share Mr. Kevin Shafer’s, Executive Director, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer District (MMSD), most recent achievement: being named a Water & Wastewater International Top 25 Global Water Leader.
WWI prides itself on spreading reliable and informative news to a global water audience. Their Top 25 Global Water Leaders initiative has grown in popularity over the past few years and has truly become an indicator of the international water industry’s top thought leaders. This year, the Top 25 focused on water leaders “whom are driving companies forward into the digital water age with a focus on innovation.”
Shafer has been the executive director of MMSD since 2002 and has focused his leadership in implementing green infrastructure across the utility portfolio on an international scale. Generally, Shafer’s initiatives focus on innovative means of managing stormwater in an environmentally and financially beneficial manner—crucial in preserving water infrastructure.
Just recently, Shafer was asked by China’s central government to educate their infrastructure leaders how to transform their urban cities into “sponge cities”. Shafer attended three water conferences in China to educate how his green infrastructure works, which he has implemented in Wisconsin and across the United States, and to explain all of the benefits that result from such engineering. More on Shafer’s recent trip can be found here: China taps MMSD and The Water Council’s expertise for help in creating ‘sponge cities’.
